Mesothelioma, ‘asbestos cancer’, develops to advanced stages before symptoms are presented, and as with other cancers, the later the diagnosis, the poorer the prognosis. Mesothelioma patients seldom live more than one year after diagnosis. Obviously, early diagnosis could extend lives by allowing for earlier and more effective intervention.

Not everyone exposed to asbestos develops mesothelioma, of course. One reason for this is that some people have immune systems that fight harder than others. Early detection may be had by using the AMAS test. This is a non-specific cancer test that is 99% accurate with 95% sensitivity. The AMAS test is able to detect cancer up to 19 months before it is clinically evident. This makes it to be an effective tool in the early detection and management of cancer.
